Although it can be argued that there are major differences between the novels, there is supplementary evidence of similiarities between them Both novels contain themes of independence, judgment, and a quest to find love

A quotation, joke, fun fact, or anecdote.
-----Use one of these to obtain your reader's attention. Whatever you choose, it should tie directly into your topic.

DO NOT, under any circumstances, put your date of birth in your essay. I can't imagine why those people would say that...

Write a sentence or two about how your reasons prove your thesis.

An attention grabbing first line is always good. Try to take out all the "to be" verbs and replace them with action verbs.

For example: "The characters in the story were very lively." changes to, "The characters came alive in the story."

depending on what the essay is about, you need a striking but not superficial/sweeping statement to start off (something to grab the reader's attention). you also need other background information, and you need to state a tidbit about the relevance of your points to the thesis (don't give too much away, just a taste).

remember the structure; intro statement, background, your points, sum up to a thesis statement. keep in mind that your thesis statement should be the Last sentence in your intro.

What would be good, would be like an opening sentence. Like a catchy catch phrase or something like that.. You need a sentence to help introduce and catch the readers attention for the rest of the writing piece.

What is the essay about? What is your thesis? Maybe just some background info on the subject.

That's all that goes into an introduction. It's an introduction, not the whole body of the text.

A hook at the beginning...something to catch the readers' attention. For example, if I was doing a paper on...cyber bullying, I could start with a story about some kid who almost committed suicide because of cyber bullying or something like that.

Generally speaking, there are three parts to any essay or speech.

I. Tell them what you're gonna tell them.
II. Tell them.
III. Tell them what you told them.

Part I. would be the Introduction.

In your introductory paragraph, introduce your topic. Describe, without too much detail, what you will be talking about in your essay.

Well day your topic was anti-drugs you could do something like....

Drug abuse and use is ____________________________. Some important information to help prove your point. Reasons and explanations. How people get addicted. How they can get help. And concluding sentence that leads onto the next topic.
