as a court employee i can tell you this: you won't get a notice from the police department, you'll get one from the court as to when your arraignment date is, or you'll get a notice that you need to appear for arraignment during the walk-in arraignment schedule. it all depends on which court is handling your case. i would find that out first, then call that court to see if the police department has submitted your case for prosecution. these can sometimes take up to a year before they're submitted to a judge. if you can tell me where in MI you got the MIP charge, i may be able to help, since i work at the 34th district court in romulus (SE Michigan/Detroit suburbs). e-mail or post additional comments, k? hope this helped ya.

If you have to appear in court for something, you better find out when...If you don't show up, they'll put out an arrest warrant on you...
