Despite what some of the other answerers have said, Mr. Jones would legally own the egg if it was found on his property. End of story. If Mr. Smith really wanted his peacock's egg, he would have taken actions to ensure that his peacock did not wander onto Mr. Jones' property.

its like apples falling the other side of the fence belong to who lives on the other side ,one of the perks about not complaining about an extensive apple tree
the egg belongs to mr Jones the price mr Smith has to pay for mr Jones not killing the peacock ,
which he easily could have done to invasive animals
especially destructive creatures like peacocks

A peacock is a male bird, so it doesn't lay eggs at all. The female is called a peahen.
