Dr didn't tell you or doesn't know?
if the Dr does not know why you had the seizure then it is safe to wait. if the Dr. can state you will never have another seizure then have him do so in court, you should be able to petition the court for a variance in the law.

Most states - and from having worked/ lived in Michigan I know Michigan is one of them - have mandatory reporting for seizures.

The brain is a freaky little thing - and sometimes it reacts to things and we may never know what it was - but we cannot take the risk that it will happen again and allow someone to get behind the wheel. It's not safe for you or other drivers on the road. If you are going to have another seizure the likelihood is that it is going to occur within the next few weeks -- this is a safety precaution. If you seized while driving you could very well take out yourself and a few innocent bystanders.

It's not only legal, but mandatory in many States.

If your doctor says you're not epileptic but that he doesn't know why you had the seizure, how can he know you won't have another?

It's normal for States to tell people they can't drive for six months after a seizure - it's to make sure they don't have another, or that the med's they are taking are correct.

I know it's inconvienient and I really feel for you, but it's not just for your safety-it's for everyone's on the road mothers, fathers, children, babies, grandmothers, we all rely on each other for our safety when we have to share the road. If you are having unexplained seizures I would assume they want to make sure you do not have another while driving, six months might help them find out if it was a 1 time thing...

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, but I must admit I am glad to hear they have temporarily taken you off the road until they determine if you are ok!
