My 21st birthday is in two weeks, and I'm not quite sure where to go. Yikes! I'm torn between these three places: Atlanta, Chicago, or New York City. I live in Cumming, which is around thirty-something miles north of Atlanta (although I don't know much about Atlanta). So, to help me decide, I'd like to know where you would go for your birthday, and why. (If you have your own destination, feel free to share! Just no Vegas suggestions. lol.)

New York City hands down. I've been to all three places, and I like them all. I lived in New York city for four years and nothing beats the sights, sounds and tastes of the City! The things to do are only as limited as your imagination. There's a reason why when I travel to other countries, the people's faces there light up when I mention New York. Save the other places for a long weekend trip. For a special occasion, go to NYC. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Never been to ATL or NYC, but I live outside Chicago. Chicago is a great place for entertainment for 20-somethings. Since you said no Vegas I assume you may want something a little low key.

Chicago has lots of lounges, specifically I would go to the John Hancock building, which is the 2nd tallest building in Chicago. On the 5th floor they have a lounge that overlooks the skyline. You can see the lake and the city because there are floor to ceiling windows all around. It's a great place to hang out with your friends, enjoy some drinks, and also it's downtown so once you leave there, there's other places you can go as well.

I spent my 21st birthday in Frankfurt, Germany. Out of the list, I would have chosen Atlanta but you seem to want to get away from home. So, I will go away from the list and say a good place to me is Miami Beach, Florida. The weather is warm for sure so you will be able to do much more all day. You could chill at the beach and let all the women know that it's your 21st birthday and try to get a late night gift. And you could go out and party almost anywhere on the strip at nightfall. I think you'll love it. But that's just my opinion. Whatever you do, just make sure you enjoy yourself and will have that feeling that you made the right choice when your birthday is over.

If it were me, I would go to New York City.

This time of year, you could go see Times Square decorated for Christmas, stop at Serendipity for Hot Cocoa, see How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Legally Blonde, Chicago, Wicked or the Radio City Christmas Spectacular on Broadway, and Ice Scate in Rockafeller Center.

If you plan on seeing any Broadway show while you are there check out this site, to book hotel deals. http://www.broadway.com/gen/Hotel_Packages.aspx?utm_source=BWNav&utm_medium=NavTab-Htl&utm_campaign=hotelpackages

Whenever you get hungry, or bored, ask a native New Yorker where they would recommend you go. Small out of the way places are almost always way better than the places all the tourists are waiting in line to get into. The newstands carry a magazine that has maps and places to go in it too. I think it says something about not being for tourists in the title, but ignore this, natives are just trying to deter you from crouding up there favorite places.

Don't miss out on other landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Ellis Island, Ground Zero, Brooklyn Bridge, etc. Check out FAO Schwartz and Macy's. You should never be bored, there are tons of things you can do. Don't forget on your birthday to ask the places where you are at if they do anything special for your birthday. You may be able to get some free souveniers of your trip this way, and don't forget to take lots of pictures.
