My friend got signed by a company and they're going through BMI (bmi.com) I guess to copyright the album. But who will be distibuting the album? Does BMI distibute albums? Sources please if at all possible.

BMI represents the composer (or the composer's publishing company) for the collection of performance rights. Performance rights are paid by TV and Radio stations, Theaters and other venues where the music is played. BMI does not represent performers or record labels as such and does not participate in the distribution of recordings. Most music composers are a member of either BMI, ASCAP or SESAC for the purpose of collecting royalties.
