2 things happen to me on that day.

first, i was in the area on day in question. i was going to a 9am job interview at a bookstore in the underground concourse of the WTC. i just got out of the subway when the plane struck the first tower. i though at first it was an earthquake, which was kind of weird, but when the security officers informed everyone to vacate the premise i went outside and i looked up and saw that the north tower was struck by a wide-body plane, which was evident by the huge hole on the north side of the tower.

i was already walking toward south ferry in lower manhattan when the second plane struck the south tower. within minutes, the north tower fell and dust was spreading thoughout lower manhattan. i boarded a staten island ferry boat bound for staten island along with other people who just got out of the subway in the middle of the chaos.

as the ferry crossed the upper new york bay, the south tower fell and i could see women crying and men using foul language to no one in paticular. i could tell that people were angry and they wanted action right now.

in the mist of this chaos, i was trying to reach my mother, who lived mt. vernon. she had just reached her job at the westchester county hospital when she got the news that the WTC was struck. she was trying to call me on my cell phone and i was trying to call her at the county hospital, but the telephone network was clogged and no calls couldn't get through.

i eventually reached staten island and i hailed a cab and took it to my cousin's house on island's east shore. i was finally able to reach my mother and informed her that the city was on lookdown and i couldn't get home for acouple of days. lucky for my cousin he was nice enough to allowed me to stay for a few day until restriction were lifted.

i eventually got home to mt. vernon and was able to hug my mother, who was worried sick. for the next couple of months i did not traveled to new york city for fear that i was not able to get back home again.

the second thing that happen to me on that day is i lost a few high school classmates who were attending college and working part-time for the firms in the wtc. one of them is a friend of mine who lost her twin sister in the wtc. she was on one of the higher floor of the south tower. netier she nor her parents were able to get her body or any traces of it.

every year, on sept. 11, i would ware a little flag pin on my shirt or suit in honor of the nearly 3000 people who died in new york and the countless other who are suffering this lost. i know for one thing, i will remember this day for the rest of my life. even though, a new wtc is being constructed, i will always remember the day i lost firends and i nearly lost life.
