I was served a citation in a probate case which means I have to appear before the judge TOMORROW and provide an explanation as to why I didnt file something that was ordered by the court.
Im not sure I can provide an adequate explanation without first seeking legal advice. I cannot afford to hire a lawyer?
How should I proceed?

File what you should have filed, because probate court doesn't even accept a recent death in the family as an excuse.

first have it in your hand for the judge to see, then expert a small fine for having it, but not mailed or to the court in time.

Their is no good answer a judge will except short of death in the family and proof of it. In the hospital, w/proof, or out of the country or state for personal reasons you can give at a side bar, i.e. female personnel, health reason maybe this would work, it has with my bother before.

just tell them the truth, if you aren't they'll know (they've heard it all before.)
