If you have no credit or rental history I'd do it if

(a) I had a co-signer, and/or
(b) a double deposit and
(c) perhaps something in the lease that said I'd be by for a quarterly inspection, just to make sure everything was going smoothly.

A credit report isn't an end-all be-all. There are ways around not having one, or having a bad one.

it will depend on the landlord really. Some will say no way but others might require an additional deposit (in Maryland the legal max is 2 months rent) or they might require that someone act as a co-signer for you. A co-signer is someone who will guarantee the rent and had be held solely responsible (read: sued... the landlord can choose to only sue them rather than you or jointly) if you skip out or trash the place so a lot of people might not do it but your parents might...

NO credit history? Well, its better than a bad one. Start to build one with fidelity to your landlord. They often require a damage deposit and one month in advance.

They may require that you get someone to co-sign the lease with you who DOES have a credit history (and who will pay if you default).
