In only one state (his home state)? No Virginia, he was doing a publicity stunt to promote his new book. It has worked, he has made a bundle.

He was running in South Carolina only and oddly enough on the Democratic ticket. To run as a Republican it would have cost too much. There may have been/be a problem because a network tv is required to give equal airtime to all candidates. The issue has never really been pressed about cable tv; but Colbert pulled out of the campaign because Comedy Central didn't want to have to deal with other candidates who might make that claim for equal airtime.

Yes he was really running to be a candidate, but he wasn't running for the actual position of president- at least he didn't expect to win. He was only running for the entertainment value.

Technically? I don't know (or care), maybe. But since he was trying to register as a Republican and Democrat he was forced out. He wasn't actually serious, I'm sure it was a publicity stunt which worked.

He was in South Carolina alone.

Not anymore, but I bet he would be better then our recent presidents x100.
