Paramecia are free living, and actively swimming animalcules. They feed on small microscopic organisms which are drawn towards the cytostome through the ciliary movement beset around the cytostome.Food particles are brought in the gullet and then pinched off in the food vacuole where they are digested.

Free-living. They live in water. I used to look at them under a microscope about 100 years ago when I was at school. heh
