In about a year and a half when I graduate high school, I plan on taking a trip to Hawaii for most of the summer to visit my boyfriend and his family. I know that ferrets are illegal in Hawaii, but would it be permissible to bring them for a visit, given that they have up-to-date rabies vaccinations, kept indoors at all times and I have their health certificates, other paperwork, etc.? I can't find information anywhere on the internet, or even a place where I can send my inquiry by e-mail. Of course, if told I could by proper authorities, I would wish to obtain written permission just so I do not run into any trouble. Though I doubt I can bring my two ferrets with me, I think it would be awesome if they could come, and I want to make sure, either that they can or can't.

Note: I already know all about airline regulations regarding this issue, so there is no need to mention it. I just need to know if I can bring my two ferrets to Hawaii for a vacation.

Thank you. =)

Animals from the mainland, even the legal ones, are quarantined for several weeks or months. It is unlikely that your ferret would be allowed in. The issue isnt the length of the stay. It's the damage the animal could cause, and the diseases it could bring that are not indigenous to the Islands. In other words, the fact that he is illegal means he wont get in. And if he DID get in, he will be in ferret jail for a significant time.
