it's so good, it must be from outside this world! and what better place to look but... mars? there is the martians story - they knew a lot about stuff so they must be smarter than us hence better cooks.
just my opinion - do not take it for granted.
[edit:]
eating it might also make you strong as mars, BUT that roman god was a violent one, so i bet the company wouldn't like to be associated with that so much.
just stick to the planet and the people from mars.

ok in case you prefer to get technical, ARES isn't MARS. Ares is the Greek equivilant to Mars the Roman God of conflict. In Greek Mythology, Ares is depicted as a fierce, deadly warrior, yet additionally somewhat of a coward and a genuine infant on the interior. In Roman Mythology, First you prayed to Jupiter out of appreciate for the King, then you definately Prayed to Mars. he's often seen because of the fact the "ordinary of Olympus" to place it like that. different than the call similarityes, the Greek Ares has not something to do with the candy bar

Well, the planet is named after the god, and the candy company has the same name as the planet. Originally the company had a slogan, "The best candy on earth comes from Mars!" implying that their candies were "out of this world!" Mars Candy then became M&M/Mars.

I think it's named after the family that owns the company. How they got the name "Mars" is another matter.

It isn't, it simply means it's "way out there" "out of this world" as in "no comparison" like Mars the planet.
