Gather tid-bits of paper: wrapping paper, scrapbooking paper, pictures colored by your children. etc..., cut them in random shapes and decoupage them to the outside. Then cut a large slot in the top of the lid and use as a "Love Note Mailbox". Have your kids drop pictures, drawings, etc..in the top of the mailbox and you can open every few days as a family or surprise Daddy when he comes home.

Your oatmeal box, combined with other small boxes, is a good starting point to make an engine for a train. Other boxes could be used to construct the other cars. It would be a cute Christmas centerpiece.

You can decoupage on animal pictures, or toys. Have them store their building blocks in it.
Or make it into a silo and make them a barn out of a cardboard box.
We store bungee cords in ours.

You could cover it in cute wrapping paper or scrapbook paper and use it for a gift box.

Cover it in construction paper, cut out a hole, and use it as a bird house.

My dad used one as a wheel for a robot, but that's kinda geeky...
