smaller padding could increase the chances of injuries. i have no idea what the NHL is thinking on this one. no matter what they do the players will adapt to it. look at soccer they've got HUGE nets and is it a high scoring game?

Neither. Leave it alone.
What are bigger nets or smaller goalie pads going to accomplish(besides scoring a goal or two more)?
The game has enough action. If a player scores too easily thats just stupid. Low scoring games don't bother me at all. They can be very exciting. Great saves by a goalie are awesome. If a player goes in and scores all the time, that isn't exciting at all.
Teams scoring more aren't going to attract more viewers. Seriously, what kind of reaction are they looking for?
I hated hockey before, but since they made the nets bigger, I just LOVE the sport!!!! Thats never going to happen. If they want more fans, they should show the games on channels that people actually get.

Hockey thinks there is not enough offense. At this rate in about 3 years, they will do away with goaltenders all together. I mean come on, they already made goalie equipment smaller, now there is that moronic goali trapezoid thing. No more things to make offense better at the expense of the goalies. Only a moron of a commissioner like Bettman would come up with this crap.

Maybe we don't see goalies getting injured due to lack of padding because of the size of the equipment. Easier saves then being a biproduct of better protection. If we cut back on the size of pads, he'd have less protection so its possible injuries could increase. Shooters have better sticks, why can't goalies have better pads?. Just a thought.

the league needs to drop some teams for sure. 30 teams to many players wouldn't be playing when it was a 21 and 24 teams. lets say we take out 6 teams just for example Florida,(Bouwmeester,Jokinen, Vokoun) Tampa Bay,(Lecavalier,St. Louis, Richards, Prospal)Phoenix(Doan, Jovanovski, Ballard, Morris) San Jose,(Thornton, Marleau, Rivet, Nobokov, Anaheim,(Pronger, Giguere, Bertuzzi, Schneider, Getzlaf and Atlanta,(Kovalchuk, Hossa, Kozlov)
just think of all those players free to play with other teams you would have better teams with more talent then 30 teams with crappy players that would of never been drafted in the 80's and early 90's. get rid of 6 teams and the scoring will go up.
the thing is the players and coaches learn new ways, today there's more block shots, teams play there's system to a T, and if the don't well the get blown out in games like 7-2. yes allot of the rules have changed to make scoring bigger but coaches will find away to win. just like back in the first expansion the TRAP was invented just so the newer teams could have a chance vs teams like the Habs, Wings,Bruins, Black Hawks, Rangers and Leafs. a rule change and some guy will come up with a way to beat it.

i agree cut back on goalie equipment before you tamper with the nets with modern day technology and the fact that everyone else equipment has gotten smaller there's no reason why the goalies equipment is so big the glove blocker and pads should all be shrunken

The problem with the league and lack of scoring still is that the talent base is so watered down. Some of these teams are playing with guys that have no business being in the NHL and need to be back down in the AHL. Make the leauge smaller, talent pool gets better, and you see more scoring.

Hire jockeys to be goalies.Or make the big goalies tie one arm behind the back.
Actually I dont see a need to do either.I think it is perfect the way it is.

They should leave things alone. The higher ups are looking for high scoring games to try to draw in fans.Pretty soon hockey won't be anything like the game it started out as.
