e46 is the best M3 ever made.

What is h11poc smoking? The E46 has 90 more horsepower than the E36 and is the car Europe always had, but we wished we had in the US so how can you say it's the best of breed?
And even though you didn't ask about the new E92 M3 V8 (which is a first since M3's have always been 6 cylinders) the E46 M3's numbers are nearly identical and it's 6 banger compare to an 8. The E46 is 333hp compared to 415hp and the numbers are only 10th's of a second difference yet cost is $20k to $30k more!!!
E36 was a great car for it's time, don't get me wrong, but it is NOTHING compared to the E46. I have a modified 1995 325is that is almost as fast as an E36 M3 so don't get it twisted.

You’re gonna have be a little more specific than that.

First, the E36 and E46 are no longer in production. The E36 went out in 2000 (after a 5 year run) and the E46 went out in 2006 (almost 6 year run.) Both of those cars pale in comparison to the new E92 M3 due out in spring of 2008.

There’s no question that both are phenomenal cars and are “hot” as you so aptly put it. However, it’s really unfair to compare them to the future M3 or even to each other for that matter. The new M3 is simply stratospheric. With an 8,250 RPM, redline giving its full power at that redline. It has a carbon-fiber roof and thus has a lower center of gravity and the entire suspension is much more aggressive, so its handling characteristics are improved. It certainly is the hottest sports car under $100,000 out this year.

With the RS4 retiring this year, the Audi doesn’t even come close and most reputable sources claiming the RS4 as “unenthralled performance, especially compared with the M3.” The C63 AMG is just another AMG car, the car is a major improvement, but still no M3.

Of course, in terms of “hot cars” there’s a lot out there. There’s the Porsche 997 911 GT2. Producing over 525 bhp with two turbos and a titanium exhaust system, the GT2 is truly unique and it’s the first ever Porsche to exceed 200 mph. That includes the Carrera GT. This car has a super-tuned suspension and NO electronic aids, no All-Wheel Drive, Traction Control, Dynamic Traction Management or Stability Control. The car has been name “the widowmaker.”

Then there’s the Ferrari F430 Scuderia. Another “hot” car that has a much anticipated release. It has over 500 bhp, from a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive format. The F430 is fantastic, and the Scuderia is probably even leaps and bounds ahead of that. It is faster than the Enzo. The car all race-boys aspire to, but never will, own. The SuperFast 2 transmission shifts in less than 60 milliseconds, Formula 1 racecars are 50 milliseconds. Add the Mannetino drive selector and Michael Schumacher’s brand new suspension control and, the I think that all in, out of every car on the market, the F430 Scuderia is the hottest car on the market. Hands down, more than a Bugatti Veyron, more than a Caparo T1 or a Lamborghini of any variety.

There’s no doubt that those cars are hot, but here’s what I expect: The Porsche and the Ferrari are nice, they’re fast and super-unique. Nevertheless, like the BMW M5 versus the Ferrari 360 Modena, the BMW was ACTUALLY better. This was tested in every condition, the Ferrari was faster in race conditions, but on the Nurburgring, it was a close test.

I think the $60,000 BMW E92 M3 will be on par with many of these supercars. I can’t tell you how phenomenal the new M3 is (I drove it as the Ascari Track in Marbella, Spain.) I think it has the potential to outperform Porsches and go head-to-head with other fantastic brands. Is it a hot car? Absolutely. Is it the hottest out there? Who knows, we’ll see.

8020rule - 90 more horsepower?? You are talking about the low powered rubbish sold in the US (I would guess. In the UK the horsepower of the E36 M3 Evo was 321bhp, The extra weight of the M3 E46 convertible meant the Evo was quicker.. I know this as I owned one and many a E46 cab smoked... The hardtop is a different matter but not too much faster than the e46 evo. As for the fool with the 325 then he must be comparing to a US rubbish engine version of the Evo.

If the poster was asking us to decide which one was "hot" then I would say the E36. The E36 in evolution form is faster than the E46 Cabriolet, on par with the coupe but slower than the CSL version. The E36 actually had a 9 year run starting with a 3.0 in 1992 and a 3.2 from 1995.

Now, if the question is rhetoric then my answer is simply "dunno, hottest out of what?"

Ive pushed the two. i admire the E36. they are extra related feeling, lighter, and extra beneficial looking. Down on capability nonetheless. yet with the aid of fact they are lots extra inexpensive, you should word the money in direction of swapping interior the 320hp double vanos eu motor. Then it would truthfully be no slower than the E46, in basic terms particularly much less subtle. the two are great automobiles. So is the G35. Its a solid issue to have.

No, actually, both the e46 and e36 suck balls in terms of looks. e30 is where it's at.
