malcom x said this in one of speeches, but a friend repeated it to me.

He says there is no way that a black person can learn history and not become angry. This comment was in the context of a discussion about real black history being taught in school (Im not talking about who invented the traffic light).

while I agree with him to some extent, I think the anger is a phase. Afterall, the people to be most angry at are all dead. But he disagrees, he says black people should continue to be angry until status quo is changed.

what say you?

Buddy V. - the opinion of the white nationalists is always welcome. I just hope its thoughtful and not jibber jabber like Tara J's response.

How far back in history does one wish to go? If you look at history from all angles, the truth is that man's inhumanity to man knows no boundaries.

Should black people be angry? I suppose that's not for me to say, but I don't see anything to be gained by it. Anger causes defensiveness and hostility, it perpetuates the problem.

Malcolm X was a brilliant man and a great speaker. I do, however, believe the status quo HAS come a long way since that speech was made. Getting angry over historical wrongs is to ignore that fact, and to continually pick at wounds that could otherwise heal.

We need to get over it. Anger is not going to help us, it doesn't really help anybody. Anger makes you stupid. It is a phase, but after that phase that anger should be switched to some motivation towards doing better. Anger never makes a community better. Look at those Palistinians and Iraqi's and Israelites.....those people have been angry for thousands of years and they stay blowin each other up. And as far as the status quo changing.....look.....white people rule the world, probably always will at least in our life time, they don't like black people, and your friend honestly thinks we are going to get reparations? Nothing is gonna change. We have to stop looking for a handout, it will never come.

Yeah, each and each time I ask a query interior the gender study section that has some thing under helpful approximately Black adult men, some Black guy there calls me "basically yet another bitter Black woman who can not hit upon a guy". It makes me desire to scream, with the aid of fact I requested why Black comedians and singers make the main Black women persons (like such fairly some black comedians say BW are freaks or we sleep around and ppl giggle and its believed, comparable as rap!) and have been given those solutions! a guy reported I regarded like a "bitter black woman". i think of its the thank you to stay in some fantasy land and attempt to place women persons in "our place".

I think it's UNDERSTANDABLE that a black person would be angry. I think it's understandable that ANYONE would be angry in this country where the master class still rules and everyone (except the rich and powerful) gets eff'd over as a result.

But I don't think people SHOULD be angry. Anger inhibits our ability to accomplish and to strive towards change.

I agree that anger is a phase that some people go through. But, sadly, there are others who live their entire lives engulfed by anger and allowing their emotions to rule every aspect of their existence.

I don't think it will do us any good to be angry. As hurtful as it is, the past is the past. There will always be racism, and we are only hurting ourselves by blaming everything on "the man" and not taking responsibility for our current and future situations. In order to progress as a people, we need to not fuel the fire of hate and degradation by giving other cultures a reason to laugh at us - like how some of our younger generation says is you dress or talk a certain way, live in a certain area, listen to a certain type of music you aren't "black enough" or acting white.

A lot of us need to just accept the fact that racism happened, NO BODY alive today was a slaver trader, NO BODY alive today was a slave, and no body can change the past. People will always be racist to blacks...its just all in how we handle ourselves.

No,and it is the Marxist drivel of X and MLK that has brainwashed so many people that any intelligent discourse over social issues are futile and impossible. You and some others here preach tolerance in one answer and bash certain groups in another.Hypocrites! And pawns of the elitists that set-up the militant leaders that some people worship as gods.No links needed for X as he never denied being Anti-American like King did.http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/814314/posts

No, not at all. Every lash of the whip and every person that was hosed and jailed during civil rights demonstrations is a motivating factor. We should see history as a deterrent. A deter rant that we never want to go back to those things.

I think they should rise above all ignorance, but that's not to say what happened in the past shouldn't make u feel angry or hurt, i'm not black & i myself feel bad about what ppl back then went through & i hope ppl can learn from history & not continue to embrace racist views & these theories that their superior to others, being that we're all HUMANS....God Bless.

No, I don't think we should remain angry and I agree that it is a phase. It is a hard phase to get through if one does not have that support to help pull them through. I don't think we should remain angry because anger hinders you and keeps you from thinking normal. You eventually lose control of yourself and ...you might as well say you are back in slavery again. Once you get sucked in...anything and any person can trigger you to get angry at any moment. That is not having control of yourself when anyone can piss you off. No one should have to go through that. Like I said if you have the support to pull you through this phase then you will be alright. It is hard for some to learn about Black American history especially when some of the bias and racist laws still occur.

Remain angry? No. Give up? No. Different solution? Yes!

---

Of course, certain groups of people will slyly try and say, "Get over the past, move on!, don't blame me for what my ancestors did, etc etc etc."

I think it is so rude to sit there and act as if some of the things that did occur back then does not occur to day. You really have no clue or you are just a coward to sit and think things are absolutely perfect. Stop making excuses for the people ---actually--- causes problems, and stop giving them so much f'n power. Simple!

If you want us to get over it, then give us a f'n chance to get over it! You can't tell us to get an education anymore because we do. You can't tell us to support each other because we do!

Stop making f'n excuses for the people who cause problems.

Being angry isn't going to change anything. We should work at making the black community better.
