Out of all the people you have met in your life, who's achievements most impress you?
For me, my grandmother on my dad's side is one of the most amazing people I have ever come across, the fact she managed to acheive what she did, with the circumstances of her life is just amazing.
Her husband came back from the Korean war hooked on junk and never recovered, Od'ing a few years later, but not before he got 2 of his kids hooked on the stuff as well. There is a famous family story about my grandfather taking my dad out for "heroin and prostitutes" for his 16th birthday.
At 89 she just stopped lecturing on medicine, has traveled the world with Doctors without borders for decades working some of the worst regions of the planet.
That family is a complete disaster, drugs, alcohol, long term jail sentences you name it, yet through all of that she managed to travel the world healing the poor, the sick, the uncared for.
So what about you?

My mother had a friend who was born in Auschwitz; his parents were there at the time of his birth and he spent the first few years of his life there. After his family's release, they had some years of hardship in postwar Europe before coming to the States.
I was just a child when he made my mother's acquaintance, in the 70's, but he was an always positive, inspiring person, and a very good friend to my mother at a time in her life when she really needed one. I can honestly say that no one ever had a bad word to say about him.
In the eighties, he contracted AIDS and died; his life was bookended by tragedy, all at the hands of ignorance and prejudice. This, however, is not what defined his life.
Despite a rough beginning and a rough end, he was supportive, caring, loving, a good friend, a true humanitarian, an example of compassion. He did not speak of, or dwell on the tragedies of his life; his life wasn't defined by its tragedies, but by its virtues.
I know this isn't so compelling a story at first glance, but I was witness to his unbeatable positive spirit. It is an inspiring thing, I think. His focus, you see, was not on himself, but on the others in his life: he wanted nothing more than to help people and be a friend.
That's an achievement, I think.

This is a very good question. I would have to say my mother. She raised 2 kids on her own w/ no schooling past an associates degree. I never knew growing up that we were poor. We didn't want for anything...I think she just figured a way to pinch those pennies so hard that they turned into dollars (at least it seemed that way). She's now retired at 50 and is doing pretty darn well. Being a mother myself, I have no idea how she did it. She worked full time, but was there for EVERYTHING...all the plays, softball and football games, and had something baked for every cake walk. My mom rocks. Thanks for reminding me of this! I'll have to give her a huge hug the next time I see her:o)

Wow, that's a great story.
I don't know who I'd pick. I'm proud of all my family members. My mother was the first to get a college degree, and I was the second in our family.
I'm going to pick my best friend Brian. He excels in everything he does. He hasn't had the best circumstances for success growing up but he has managed to overcome every obstacle because he has what I lack: ambition.
We are both 25 years old. He has a bachelor's degree in Biology, and he is a full-time daytime personality for the #1 Top 40 radio station in his area. He was just recently offered another position in addition to his on-air duties: promotions director. I'm all proud. :o)

My fiance: the fact that he is alive and sane and is the wonderful person that he is, is a massive achievement considering how he was raised and what he has been through.
I loved reading your grandmother's story.

My friends who have traveled a lot have inspired me. I love to travel so I admire them for being able to do that. Also, one of my teachers wrote a book. I want to be published one day, so that is uplifting as well.

the person would have to be the one that is my best friend that has achieved the most in life, and delivered those on drugs and other stuff and tells the others not to be enablers to let someone else stay and destroy thier family.
The Passion of Christ movie depicts it too. truely Jesus is the one I am the most impressed with and has the greatest achievements and helps me from within to do the right thing to truely help others too. So its double great not just an outside inspiration but within as he guides me and millions of others too.
precious rose to live Life, hi and peace in Isaiah 9:6 our prince of peace messiah Jesus, a cup of mocha chappuccino for me and whatever your heart delights in, & I read Colossians chapters 1 & 2 in the Bible, the greatness of our creator Jesus&His mercies new every morning Lamentations 3:21-26, peace up precious
Life without others and most important Jesus the precious savior's friendship...
is like the dawn without the sun.
Life without friendship...
is like the sky without the moon
when the evening has begun.
Life without friendship...
is like a rose without rain.
Life without friendship...
just wouldn't be the same.
Life without friendship...
is like a ship without a sea.
Life without friendship.as the days before I prayed "Jesus I am sorry for my sins, come into my heart, thanks for dying for them, help me and be my friend, amen." Revelation 3:19&20 Jesus says I love you and knock on your heart door to come in and forgive sin to become your friend."
without His friendship and those like you..
just could not be
without a dear person like you for me,

and my second choice would be my grandma Jewish from Boston who prayed and let Jesus into her heart too, and changed from and old woman dying to a new life of joy and reading the bible, and encouraging me =DAvid we have to tell our Jewish people about Jesus too.
