apologizing is a human thing
wherever there is humanity, there are apologies.

I lived in Europe,Africa, the muslim world as well as North America and I found people of all walks of life and races apologize when due.

Some people will not say thank you,but it does not mean they are mean or the whole ethnicity they belong to is like that ;it is just them, those specific indivuals who happen to be either engrossed in their thoughts or concerns or may be sad or uncomfotable at that point in time.

Even wild animals do it. A monkey who has offended another monkey will apologize by showing their rear in submission. A dog will pull their ears back and roll over on their back displaying their belly to the one they offended. Japanese are the most apologetic culture I know. Ancient Eskimos would offer the offended one their most priced possession in exchange for forgiveness. Even criminals apologize to each other or face death. Apologizing is a trait of classy people who have social manners and admit their mistakes especially when they have offended someone intentionally.

I don't know about other cultures, but I know when other cultures say "I'm sorry" to the West they repeat it over and over again ad nauseum (like computer companies for service or techs, ie the philippines and india) like a parrot and don't mean it. There must not be a translation word for the word "I'm sorry". In fact, if I said to an Indian that I'm sorry they would tell me never to be sorry for anything.

No, it is a family thing. Depends on how you are raised. I know a family from Mexico who don't apologize to eachother and hold grudges, yet there are Americans who do the same.

There are different cultures that were very stoic, meaning that they did not care about anything that happened. That aside, though, most cultures apologize. In Japanese, excuse me is "sumimesen" and sorry is, "Gomenasai"

I don't know of any cultures that don't apologize. I do know that the Japanese are VERY big on that though. They sincerely do not want to offend.

Yes, the landlord culture. "Never explain, and never apologize" -- just insist that the rent be paid on time, despite the rats, hole in the roof, lack of heat, etc.
