I am thinking of getting lime wire. my friends say that it is great. If I just download stuff like movies, t.v. shows and music and then take them out of my limewire file, put them on my I-pod and then delete them completly from my computer what are my chances of gettin caught and what is the penalty if I get caught. Im only 14 so they cant do any thing to extreame right????????

I'm 23 (not that that matters, but you all listed your ages) and I have LimeWire.

Here's the deal...it doesn't matter what age you are, you CAN get in trouble if caught. No, you won't go to prison or anything like that, but you will get sued for ALOT of money.

However, I was always told that the way to "not get caught" is by making your downloads non-sharable. Meaning, you can download whatever you want, but right click on it afterwards and choose "Stop Sharing File". This gives you complete access to it, but it stops other people from being able to download it from you...or "sharing", which is the illegal part.

Ok here is how i feel on this.
I feel lime wire is pretty safe no it is not full proof you can get viruses if you are retarded but if you download exactly what u asked for you are fine

Legal actions- i have heard no action being taken on or against Limewire
I have been using Limewire since about 2003 and i haven't deleted a song unless i got tired of it but hell i still got songs i downloaded then tho but so you are safe in that area.

On a legal note if you were to be prosecuted for stealing music or what ever they can take serious action there was a news story in 2001 about a 13 year old who was sued for a large amount of money by a major record label. But on the lines of lime wire you are fine from that.

I am 14 btw :) Larry :)

dont worry everyone does it. im fifteen so its not like they are gonna send me to federal-pound-me-in-the-a $ $ - pr i s o n. but if u dont want to get caught the ONLY thing u CAN do is not upload anything. and u dont have to delete the files after u transfer them. even if u send them to ur desktop they cant trace them... for me i move 'em to an encrypted folder :) i have like 20 movies i got from frile sharing. and plus ppl rarely get caught and the legal dispute is still going on. ppl say its "sharing", lawyers say its stealing. think of it this way: is it illegal 4 one of your friends to lend u a cd? technicly file sharing is similar. hope this helps. and dont let the man hold u down. like ABC or beyonce have billions of dollars, 20 bucks is like a quarter to them

I don't know the answer to your question, but everyone listed their ages, so I'm 16.
