I admit that I just don't get Santa. Once Santa was outed, I felt that I had been lied to. I also didn't like the premise of conditional love that I felt Santa operated on - meet some behavioral goal or another and you earn your gifts. Another problem I had with Santa was that I felt my own family was overlooking me, so I asked why only Santa brought me gifts and nobody else did. Gifts are well and good, but I wanted to think my family cared about me, not some elf and reindeer. I also didn't like the eerie feeling that "Santa" could see you in the bathroom or undressed. Another reason I'm not overly fond of Santa is that Santa was held over my head. I thought the Christmas spirit was about giving based on conditional love, not scaring others into thinking they might not get gifts if they fail to reach some goal. No, I am not a fan of perpetuating the Santa myth.

I didn't think that much about Santa after I was a child until I became an elementary school teacher. I taught second grade for 5 years and the kids just adored Santa and would get so excited when they talked about him. None of them even seemed to question it: they just innocently believed. Although the whole Santa premise has it's flaws, I do admit that seeing my students get excited about Santa every year is a reminder as to why we keep the whole Santa tradition.

I guess everyone has an opinion on Santa, and some enjoy believing. When my son got older and found out where the gifts really came from he appreciated them more. Also realizing how much we must have spent by doing all Santa's work ourselves. There use to be a real Santa ,we just keep up the tradition. If it is explained the right way to a child when they get older it makes it a little easier.

Santa is more than a jolly gift giving guy he is a felling a attitude a mind set that we all can benefit from he is a reminder to do good and to not be selfish he is about putting other people first and not thinking about what i will get but what can i give to make some one happy

Santa is just fun for kids. Most children look forward to that one night of the year when that benevolent old guy comes around with toys for them. The unconditional love part comes from your parents (or whomever provided the gifts from Santa). I guess everyone's traditions are different. In our house, Santa brought the "biggie" gift (the really good one) and we supplied the rest for our kids.

the point of santa is to be good and stuff and you'll be rewarded
be a dick and you'll get coal
its simple its just something parents try to use to make the their kids nicer but it always backfires since they never give coal to the kids that are *****

You're right. All parents are doing is lying to their kids (I did it too). That's not a good example to set for them.
