I have never had a problem talking to my stepdaughters about anything that has to do with their bodies. I took them for their first bra, we have had conversations about what happens during puberty and the very basics of sex ed because they asked me flat out. I am actually planning on having the period talk with my oldest step daughter tomorrow night. She will be 11 in January and everyone in her family has gotten their periods at 11 so I guess it's time for the "talk" :) It's really not as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

I never had a "talk" with my mother. It was just something that was discussed since I can remember. My parents have always been VERY open about everything. They would talk about sex and things like that too when I was young, so it was never taboo. It really helped me growing up because since they felt comfortable talking about stuff like that in front of me, i was able to talk to them about problems that I was having. It's great knowing that you can go to your parents when you're having problems, and being completley open is the way to do it, in my opinion. I plan on doing it this way once I have children as well.

Actually, the school took care of that for me. And thank goodness they do it at such a young age because my second daughter started at 11.

lmao I remember my mom's cousin's daughter - in the bath when she was like ..10, and there's just this.. massive scream and the parents rush in and she was like "I'm dying!!", and the mom was just like, "oh, that's just your period" and walks off.

It was hilarious. - not the poor daughter, I felt bad for her.
But her mom - she just made me laugh at how .. i can't think of the word .. but she never said or explained anything of it.
