A concert is givin in pittsburgh alex and mary want to go to the concert. The first 50 miles of their trip was posted at 35mph. The next 100 miles is posted at 55mph. The last 50 miles was posted at 40 mph. If they leave their house at 4 pm, will they make the concert by 8 pm? please show work!

t=x/v
for first section t=50/30
and the second t=100/55
and for the third t=50/40

now add them up for total time
it will take them to get there:
t=4h 44min 5sec
it's more than 4 hours, so
they will not make it.

time = distance divided by speed. So the time for the trip is
50/35 + 100/55 + 50/40 . Do this out and see if it's less than the 4 hours they had to get there.

Total time (hrs)= 50/35 + 100/55 + 50/40

Total time = 1.43 + 1.82 + 1.25

Total time = 4.5 hrs

If they leave their house at 4 they will be 30 minutes late to the concert. But since concerts usually start late, they will probably be OK.

100/55=1.8h
50/40=1.25h
1.4+1.8+1.25=4.45h
4pm-8pm. Five hours total(count on your fingers)
