Flies off on a tangent to the circle.

The ball continues at the tangent to the curve it was following due to the restraint of the string. Of course, it instantly becomes subject to gravity, but its beginning path is the tangent (i.e. slope) of the curve.

It all depends on the speed and thrust but the ball would either get thrown or just fall.
