Something somewhere inbetween I would think. It's not true our Isolationism EVER caused a war. Actually the more meddelsome our country has become in foreign affairs it has extended their reach and caused more wars than Isolating ever could. At one time we had foreign countrys begining to treat their people better and they got sanctioned if they got caught putting their people into sweatshops and being inhumane to them in general, until the greedy rich started slipping traitors into our government to subvert and pervert and erode the laws that restrained their greed and cruelty. There is only one way to straighten things out here and that is to go out like we came in. Put back strong laws and regulations back on Multi-national corporations and make EXAMPLES of them when they are caught violating the standards. Punish monopolies, and stop letting them rip us off by getting by without paying their taxes especially the estate tax. That tax was provision that helped prevent rich men from becoming tyrants and dictators. Or trying to turn our country into a Monarchy. People voted to let them do it but they lied when they said it would help the little guy. I hope Americans have educated themselves on this subject by now. Our nation is becoming a pig-sty of corruption because of these factors. And if the people don't get some back-bone and demand change, we only have a short time before this nation is not worth spitting on, and they'll have more to worry about than having enough money for gas to get to work. But even worse than that, we will be participating in their sin and a partner in their crimes by ommission if we DON'T demand change. Good question.

That's not really isolationism, if we would still be trading and continuing dialog. I would call it a time to reflect back onto our own democracy and representing the needs and wants of our own people rather than the agendas of foreign nations with their strong political lobby influences which have dictated our foreign and domestic actions for a while now.
Ironically isolationism is where we've been heading, as we've fought with everyone and alienated almost the entire international community, as we have. That's much more isolationistic.

It is not isolationism. What we need, however, is to keep our noses out of other countries business and that includes foreign aid and war. If we have a foreign policy that does not involve the USA in other worldly business it would serve us all very well in the short term and long run.

World War I.
You know what resulted in Post World War I Isolationism?
World War II.
Then and now, the United States is much to involved in international affairs, be it military, diplomatically, or economically.

No, that only worsens things. I favor a non-intervention policy. Is not the same, we only invade countries when we are certain of a direct threat against us. We shouldn't nation build nor cut ourselves from the world. Let us be active without raising our arms too quickly.

Sure do, let everyone else deal with their own problems for a while, and you'll see how quick they'll want to change, and how fast our problems disappear.
