The same reason a 35 year old man or a 37 year old man might be obsessed with 'video games'. In other words, his age has nothing to do with it. The answer is not about age, it's about what else is going on in his life.

Just because you're a certain age doesn't mean that you can't be obsessed with video games. At 36, he's most likely having a mid-life crisis, and video games offer an escape from that.

People tend single out video games for there affiliation with laziness and geekiness.

But lets think realistically:
---
Someone who spends their entire weekend drinking beers and watching football
---
Someone who watches a marathon of their favorite TV show all day
---
Someone sitting in a movie theater for a long movie
---
Someone reading a long fictitious novel
----
All of these individuals are just as lethargic as the gamer but are not scorned as much. Why, because these behaviors are socially acceptable and being a gamer is not.

The fact is, the activities that you expect this man to be doing are probably just as lethargic and unproductive as playing video games.

This man is not much different from he typical person, who distracts themselves from their boring life by playing video games, watching football, reading gossip magazines...etc.

Society needs to start grasping reality, instead of trying to escape it, in multiple ways. We need to start actually improving our lives, instead of taking the shortcut and accepting the instant joy of switching on a TV.

Why would a 36 year old man collect stamps or make scale models? Or, for that matter, why would he watch TV?

It's just a hobby and a form of entertainment.

I'm 43 and I play video games and it's not because I'm a pothead, lazy, immature or any other label people are obsessed to place on someone like me.
How would you like it if I said that everyone who watches TV hasn't got a life, lazy, couch potato, drug addicted, brainless, clueless, moron, and ect...
"To each his own"
Is that so hard to do?

Video games are just so fun to play, and video games are so realistic nowadays, and the fact that video games are so realistic makes them appropriate for everyone, no matter what age.

Immaturity. Can't deal with real life situations. Doesn't have a purpose in life. Doesn't want to grow up. Isn't good at anything else. Lazy. Pothead. The list goes on.
