There is very little demand for Vista despite the huge numbers that MS is saying they shipped. We are a reseller and most of our sales (98%) are XP. We have had numerous people who were forced to buy Vista at the stores, come in and have us install XP instead. There are many reasons for this. First. there really are no compelling reasons to switch to Vista. Second, since Vista is so large, it requires a very powerful PC (I suggest multiple processors or dual core) with lots of RAM and a high performance video card. Third, the OS is not yet stable. Lastly, many hardware components and software programs will not work with Vista, causing you to invest even more money. Most business people are more concerned with getting work done with the least amount of hassle as possible and Vista does not do this.

Like every other OS that Microsoft has released, they did not do enough testing before they released it.
DOS went through several revisions until they got something that was stable (MS-DOS 6.22)
Won't even talk about Windows 3.0 or 3.1, but when 3.11 came out, it finally worked.
Windows 95 - anyone remember the conference when it was released and CRASHED in front of everyone?
Windows 98 - Crashed all the time, Windows 98SE was finally stable (mostly).
Windows ME - Excellent in theory, in practice it was a bad idea, not because of the OS, but because people expected that it would work with everything that 98 did (nope) and most people thought Windows ME and Windows 2000 were the same thing and tried to run things that weren't compatable.
Windows NT - Great for networking - not for home use, but it's the basis for everything since.
Windows 2000/XP - Basically the same thing, neither were at ALL stable when first released. Now however, I have a 2000 machine that has been running nonstop for 4 years and still going. My XP machines rarely have problems anymore, but boy were they crappy when first released.
Vista is the same story. At first it WILL suck. It's going to take a long time for vendors to get their act together and make everything compatable/stable. But it will happen eventually. Just takes time. The biggest problem with Vista is it requires a fair amount of processing power and RAM to be useful, and people are so set on thinking that a $400 computer is going to work right. Get a $1500 Vista computer and you'll never turn back.
Hope that helps.

Many people complain about Vista because it lacks alot of support for older items such as printers , sound cards and such. I know on a sound card that I had in my XP system would not work on my Vista system , when I went to the website for updated drivers they flat out said this item is not supported and never will be supported for Vista. I myself still love Vista so far , Im not gonna let a 5 year old sound card be the reason to not like something.
For the people who have XP , I have heard rumors that microsoft will only support XP untill 2009 and then they will only support Vista. I have not been able to verify this yet , but if this happens alot of people will not be happy.

Experienced computer users use a computer to it fullest and use many devices and software. Due to microsoft's lack of proper compatibility most programs on xp will not work with vista. Vista is also slower for most systems since it has all the extra features that arent necessary. The bug's may or not be worked out, so wait before buying a pc packed with vista to minimize trouble. Or buy a computer with xp so its stable.

i exploit vista and there is particularly no issues as lengthy as you replace abode windows at present and characteristic solid antivirus undercover agent ware ---- > as with something of abode windows. the sole issue ppl have with vista is that its not backwards nicely suited with your older utility/hardware so except its an extremely massive product or is rather new youre in all likelihood gonna ought to enhance your stuff. additionally while it comprises vista and XP in case you attempt to purchase a working laptop or pc with XP youre going to be paying extra beneficial than you will desire to for a working laptop or pc with crappy specs while placed next to vista. If youre paying for a clean pc circulate with vista with the aid of fact its the destiny and XP is going to be supported much less and much less vs vista that's getting a service %. in early 2008

XP works fine. Why change?
Vista works fine, but many vendors are slow to release drivers for their products. Give Vista about a year and then make the switch if you want.

I don't understand the whole XP vs. Vista thing.
For me XP is stable and is only an OS to make other, more useful programs work, nothing else.
I don't use Windows for any serious work.

It's the same with windows 95, 98, ME. They have gone the way of the dinosaur. Microsoft will release a service pack 3 for xp then eventually call it quits on supporting XP.
