when a magnetic is inserted into a coil, does it matter if its North pole of the magnetic or south pole or will the current oppose the magnet ether way?

Yes, it matters. If you are measuring the current, the two poles produce opposite current changes. If you are inserting it in a powered coil, one end is N and the other S and it will pull or repel appropriately.
