Hello. the chariot was a way for a horseman to use a bow or a spear in warfare. It was sometimes driven by a sheild bearer, so there would be 2 soldiers in the chariot. Takes lots of practice to shoot a bow from horseback, this is a way it could be done, since the platform of chariot is less 'bumpy' to ride than horse's back. Also, the chariot was a very mobile, and pretty intimidating if you were the guy on foot being chased by one....

Initially they were invented to carry fire wood for army kitchens and fodder for their horses and other animals. Subsequently,these were improved and introduced in war fare.
