The only thing I'm thinking here is to be over the top corny about it. A business man in a mock music video (ala Corny Collins in the Hairspray ad) If you could get a background track for something (Maybe the theme song to Shaft?) and make up lyrics and every time you say shrewd everyone stops and very obviously points to your shrewd business man. So each part of the song would be a different ways that he's shrewd. Maybe you start with a short scene at home and his wife didn't do so well making breakfast but does he say anything bad to her? NO! He does the smart shrewd thing and tells her how wonderful she is! He gets his hug from his wife, winks at the audience and then he's off to the subway, carpool, or other transportation situation where you can make up another thing to happen. Then off to the office where he'll save a business deal... It's got a Drew Carey feel to it. OK, I'm running with this here :-) That's just one idea if you can pull it off since it's become a musical, haha.

good luck,
Marianne

No one can help you "be shrewd" because you can't BE anything in theatre. If someone told you a family member just died you would have a COMPLETELY more realistic example of sadness then if someone told you to just "be sad". So instead, try to think of who your character is, how they move, talk, and act around other people. Then make choices for them. Why do they say certain lines, what is the meaning. If you think about why they are saying and what they are trying to accomplish BY SAYING THEM the actions will come more freely. You are the only person who knows your character and the way you are trying to show that character to the world. So try thinking how you, as the character, would become a more shrewd person. Hope this helps.
