Raccoons should always be treated as if they have rabies. The time of day you see them does not indicate if they are infected. How they act does. Raccoons generally only come out at night but they can extend their foraging both when pickings are poor and when they are good. Odd behavior is a good indicator of a rabid animal. If you are familiar with the type of animal you should be able to recognize odd behavior. If you see this you should report it to your animal control department or health department.

Raccoons can carry Baylisascaris roundworm, canine distemper, parvovirus and rabies. Of the 6,844 documented rabies cases reported in the United States in 2004, 37.5% were in raccoons. Seeing a raccoon during the day is an indicator, though not absolute, that the animal may be ill. So yes they have rabies

No...raccoons are more nocturnal but if they do not find enough food during the night...they may continue to forage throughout the day. Yes, raccoons CAN carry rabies..but seeing one in the daytime is no indication of that.

Raccoons are mammals so it could carry rabies. Seeing one at any particular time isn't a factor. She must having been pulling your leg.

no, it was probably just looking for food at night and didn't go home early enough to get back before the light came.
