depending on how old u are they can give you birth control for free, and if you are over 18 they can give it to you at a lower price than a regular doctor would charge. You dont need your medical history checked or parental consent. They will ask you all the info they need from you

You'll need to get a checkup there, they want to make sure you're ok first. They have different kinds, I got on ortho cyclen (not the tricyclen) and that was $18 a month for my rate scale, they look at your income and what you can afford and you pay that way. There were some months I got it free, as well.
You'll need to have a parent or guardian with you if you're under 17, call the Planned Parenthood and ask questions, they'll be happy to tell you what their rules are.
Be sure to read the warnings on the pills--no smoking, no taking chances with this, it's serious medication.
On the good side, my cramps went from 5 days down to 2 once I was on the pill, and no more unexpected early periods, they were steady with the pills schedule!
On the not so sure side.... one little mentioned thing about them is that about 10% of women on the pill for long term ends up going up one or two bra sizes, it makes some of us BIGGER in the boobs. I went from a small C to a big D in 8 years. But it only happens to 10%.

Planned parenthood does give out birth control and without a perscription and for cheap. Just call your local planned parenthood and make an appointment and they will set you up right there on the spot when you go in without going thru ur medical history or any of that. plus u dont need parental consent. in some places, they even give you enough for the year so you dont have to refill.

it is good that you are looking into this sort of thing.
i know from experience that it is necessary in this world to take all precautions.
Fist off... always use a condom... too many people have diseases out there and you cant tell it; AIDS can be in someone s system for 10 years and not show up until then
Secondly, i have a 2 year old because i didnt take my birth control pills like i should; when chosing a method, pick one you can stick to and that would work for you!!!!
i am on the depoprevera shot and love it; only down side is that you gain some extra weight from not having the periods.
Like i said, look into all methods and like some of the others said, talk to a specialist who can tell you ALL the side effects and someone who can help you decide.
Great topic BTW!!!

Personally, I really don't think you should go on birth control (I assume your talking about pills). I was the pill for about 2 yrs and I figured putting anything into your body that wasn't meant to be there and wasn't natural must not be a good thing. After I stopped I felt much better physically. I didn't get headaches as often and my neck didn't hurt as much as it used to. Also, after I stopped taking them I had pretty bad zits for a while, I've never really had that much acne before. I think my body was getting rid of toxins or something. I still have more zits that I ever used to. I don't think you should. It messes with the normal functions and balances of your body. Condoms are still pretty effective when used CORRECTLY. Many people I know just use condoms and they haven't got pregnant yet. Yes, you can get pregnant using condoms, but it's like that with any contraceptive.

Good for you for being proactive and preventing pregnancy. Make sure you use condoms to prevent STDs as well.
Planned parenthood will give you a PAP smear to detect any signs of cervical cancer, do some cultures to check for STDs, and help you choose the best form of birth control for you. The cost depends on your (or your parents') income.
You do not need parental consent, and planned parenthood will not contact you by phone or mail if you request it.

No one hands out BC pills. They have to ne prescribed by a doctor after an examination. If you are worried about parental consent, it's quite evident that you are underage, While I don't want any unwanted children running around, I do not think you are old enough to take the responsibility of having sex, nor should you at your age or at any age until you have made a commitment to someone special. Call me an old fogey, but when morality was at a higher level than it is now, when babies being born out of wedlock wasn't commonplace, and when you waited until marriage to have sex, the world was a much better place to live, drugs weren't on every street corner, a gang was a group at the local drive-in, and the list goes on. You have a whole life in front of you. Take your time and don't do everything before its time and then be bored the rest of your life..

I believe it is greatly reduced (cost wise), and I think they see teenagers without parental consent, but I could be wrong. They have to ask medical questions/backround stuff, because some people due to their health are not candidates for the pill. But, please let me say, as a mother of 3 children in todays world,,with having sex your LEAST worry is getting pregnant. Your biggest concern should be with contracting an STD. If you contract HIV/AIDS, you will DIE, period. You should look into other types of protection also, in addition to the pill. Condoms and not having sex at all is the only way to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
I know I could go on and on about how your young, how you shouldn't do this,, etc etc but I won't. You've already gotten to this point in life, and your asking questions,,which IS A GOOD THING. It shows your thinking, and it shows your intelligent enough to seek out the answers to the questions you cannot ask at home. Please take care of yourself, and do whats right FOR YOU, not FOR HIM.
PS--if you ever need to talk,,keep on doing EXACTLY what you just did. :o)

Planned Parenthood can help you.
I'm not exactly sure how much it will cost you. I know in some cases they give it out free or nearly free.
You will have to have an exam.
I'm not sure about parental consent.
They will check medical history in that you will fill out typical forms.
***PS..I'm a redhead, I've taken the pill for years. I've never passed out from it.

I went to my local health department and they go by income, i ended up getting 3 months worth of pills for free, plus they gave me a small bag full of condoms. I didn't use those cause hubby and I were ok with me taking the pill. You can call around and find out who gives them, what they charge, what have ya. When I was in Oklahoma, I went to a health clinic and got a years supply of bc pills for free. i was shocked. that was a few years ago and i don't use that kind of bc anymore. I hope this helps out, or at least gives you some ideas. as far as cost, i do know that the health department goes by income, so that may be your best bet if you can't find any for free. good luck and God bless.
