I am on yearly lease. As my current lease is expiring I am planning to go month to month and my Apartment management has increased the rent from 1580 to 2150. I think its ridiculous.More than 25% increase in rent. Isn't there a rent control act in Santa clara, CA? Please provide your valuable inputs.

It does not appear that the City of Santa Clara has seen fit to institute a rent control program. Thus, your landlord is free to raise the rents as he/she sees fit. I suspect that, if you signed a lease for another year, the monthly rents would change. It's not uncommon to charge considerably more rent value for a month-to-month vs a guaranteed lease arrangement.
