I rent the 2nd flr of a 2-family house. How will I know if I'm paying the heating (gas) bill for entire house?

My rent does not include utilities except water.

Are there 2 gas meters? Two furnaces?

Your bill should state the specific service address. Does it specify 2nd floor?

Your landlord is paying the heating bill, so the heating bill is included in the rent. If you have access to the gas meter find out how many gas meters there are.
