Depends on what kind of a hurry you are to put it up. Prices get cheaper, closer to Christmas, but the selection gets pretty slim. They were all cut and kept in cold storage about the same time, so that isn't a factor. What is, is how you treat it once you get it home. You need to cut off the bottom of the trunk about 2 inches to expose fresh wood. Fill a 5 gal bucket full of HOT water, add a slug of clorox and corn syrup and mix it up good. Set your tree in it over night. The HOT water helps to dissolve the sap so that the water can get up into it. The clorox and corn syrup help preserve it. A tree can absorb up to five gallons of water in the first day or so, so make sure you keep the bucket full of HOT water. When you get it in your tree stand, make sure you always keep water in it at least 3 inches up on the trunk of the tree. Be sure you put the tree away from any furnace vents, heat outlets, or fireplace. It should last 10 days to 2 weeks, no problem.

It depends on whether or not you're watering it. Even watering it, it will only last about three weeks. And thats if you cut off the bottom right before putting it in the stand so it can absorb the water. With out watering it, it will probably last a week inside.

i'd get it now if you're buying it retail. it's a bit fresher and you can put it in a bucket of water for a few days before putting it up. the longer they sit on the lot, the dryer they become.
