They should leave it up to the business owner to decide if they want to allow a legal activity, such as smoking in their establishment.

The free market will decide if a place should not allow smoking.

As far as making it illegal.....never. The gov't needs to stay out of our bedrooms and stay away from our vices!

I am a non-smoker.

I believe that today we need government help. Everywhere we go there is someone lighting up. I believe that if smokers used a little kindness and courtesy when out around town and other people we would not even be asking this question. I believe that anyone smoking around children should go to the gallows. If a smoker smokes in a non smokers house, car, or a public place that person might as well just defecate, not any worse.

Not whether, but certainly where. I don't want to be greeted by a cloud of secondhand smoke anywhere, as long as smokers have a designated spot that I don't have to deal with then I'm fine. And as for the comment above me about smoking in restaurants it's not this country's job to cater to smokers, I go there to eat and enjoy my meal. I didn't order carcinogens.

I think it is soooo stupid it's not even funny!!

Yes, yes, yes I know that smoking isnt good or healthy but some of us do it any way and the world shouldnt stop just because non smokers dont like it

I personally think the problem is much more important than where we can and can not smoke, I think it is about the goverment telling us what we can and can not do, think about it people, if we let the goverment tell us what we can and can not smoke WHAT WILL THEY DO NEXT?

I have a problem with it. While I think that certain restrictions, like making them use a "smoking room" are OK, I think others are absurd. Forcing restaurants to be entirely smoke free is crazy. That forecloses a HUGE part of the market for those restaurants, and quite frankly if a restaurant wants to entertain smokers, it is their right to exercise their own business judgment and make that decision. There are plenty of options for people who don't want to be around smoke -- go to a smoke free restaurant.

Since some children actually have asthma attacks because of smokers their should be some sort of regulation. My 2 year old and 9 month old for example should be able to live their lives with out having to inhale cancer causing toxins. Peace.

I have no problem with the government dictating public buildings (schools, gov't buildings, etc.) be smoke free. I am even ok with them mandating health codes for smoking sections in restaurants (seperate ventilation, etc.). But now they are taking it even further passing laws about my ability to smoke in bars, casinos, even my own car and home in some places. This is big brother legislation and is unconstitutional in the extreme. If smoking is that bad, put it to a vote and try to make it illegal. So long as it is legal for me to buy and smoke cigarettes...leave me and my cigarettes alone.

I think it is a good idea. Many argue that this takes away their freedoms, however this is only protecting the right to life of other citizens. Smokers harm all citizens! The only reason the government is not taking more action to protect the people is because of the lobbying done by the cigarette companies. Statistically, people should fear public smokers more than they should fear plane crashes. Unfortunately, the cigarette companies have campaigned effectively enough to the point where it is the other way around.

In Government buildings they have every right. In individual businesses it's the proprietor's choice, but a good one. I am a non-smoker, and even sectioned, I gag. It's not one groups right to force a bad habit on the rest!

I do not mind it because it does not bother me. However, it does seem like it goes against the constitution. I personally like it because I think smoking is silly.
