Well they say every woman is different and I must have been one of those lucky ones, because the only thing I noticed were period like cramps (contractions) and they werent really regular so I didnt think anything of them. I didn't actually know I was in "real labor" until my water broke, and I got to the hospital and they told me I was already 8cm. My labor was only 1.5hours before my little one got here. Alot of woman can get symptoms up to a couple days before they go in labor, or start labor early I think it depends on 2 things, your body and your pain tolerance level. Oh and just for the record, my baby was very very active and moved right up until she came out, I could still feel her hiccupping while she was in the birth canal getting ready to come out. Good luck!

You could probably get the time off. How p*ssed your boss will be depends on how difficult it is to find a replacement on two hours' notice. But let me ask you this: Is this your sister's first child? Because labor can take a LOOOONG time, especially with a first child. You might work your shift and find that she still has 12 hours to go. She's not going to want you in the delivery room even if she has said otherwise before she went into labor. You'll mostly be sitting on your @ss in the waiting room. Maybe you could work your shift and then bring the rest of the family something to eat from Saladworks.

It is a myth that baby doesn't move at all before labour. If that does happen - call your doctor. It's important. I know of a woman who just this summer thought that's what was happening, as she had just passed her due date...she felt no movement for a day and a half, and finally called her doctor Monday morning...they almost lost the baby. The cord had wrapped around her neck a couple of times. Never expect no movement. The movement can definitely be more subtle, but no movement is not good.

My due date is next Wed...today I lost a bit of the mucus plug, and since yesterday I've been feeling very uncomfortable and crampy...some of the BH contractions have brought cramping that radiated from abdomen to back - and mine typically never feel like anything but tightening. I'm definitely in the pre-labour stages...as for how long it'll take...who knows. :)

I felt like I had morning sickness all over again.
I felt like I had to constantly go to the restroom.
I felt hot and then 5 minutes later cold again.
I was extremely restless, I couldn't comfortable sit and I couldn't walk around.
I was really anxious and emotional. Cried for no reason.
I was getting goosebumps and my forehead got sweaty.
My ankles started to hurt???
The worst was when my lower back started to ache really bad, almost burning pain.

Keep in mind. You will only be in pain for a short time considering the rewards. I promise you, the second you look into your baby's eyes, you won't even FEEL the pain anymore!

I just gave birth to my daughter 5 days ago. The day I went into labor I was feeling crampy, like my period was going to start. I also got sick to my stomach that night. Its hard to explain but my body just felt different than other days. I started with contractions at 1:30am. Good luck!

I just felt misserable my whole body ached. I just wanted to sleep most of the day before, like my body was prepping me for being awake for 23hrs straight! I didn't want to eat. I was even more irritable than my normal prego self.lol But once the contractions started I was relieved (well at first) that 40 weeks was nearly over!

Low backache, loss of appetite, baby becomes quiet, not moving much or at all, a "dragging" or sagging feeling below the waist. Sometimes, the only symptom is that the baby just becomes really quiet. I don't know why. My daughter's water broke first with both her girls. Mine never did until crowning. Go figure...

I had lower back pain and had no idea it was labor until I really started having contractions - baby was born 5 hours later! If you are unsure, ALWAYS go to the hospital or call your midwife/doctor.
