I have to agree with your own instinct -- it's very trendy. I'd personally avoid it altogether.
If you love it, however, perhaps try using it as a nickname rather than given name. Still a bit hard to avoid the trends -- K names in generally being a common one ;) -- but you might be able to find something that works.
GIRL
Anniken - a pet form of Anna, but a bit "Star Wars" at the moment, I'll admit
Kendra
Kenina
Keziah
Kerensa - lovely meaning, by the way. This would be my pick for a girl. ;) Kerenza is also an accepted variant.
BOY
Kendrick
Kenneth
Kentigern
Kenton
Luken
Vikenti
All real, properly-spelled names that could reasonably offer the nickname Kenzie. ;) You can find meanings here, by the way: http://www.behindthename.com/

It's too trendy and childish. Can you picture an adult woman named Kenzie? Probably not.

Super trendy. And serioulsy, do you think they'll ever be a CEO named "Kenzie?" Maybe the CEO of a porn start up.

I think that it is too trendy on it's own. But Mackenzie is nice. You can alway shorten it to Kenzie when she is young and allow her to chose what to be called when she is older. And chances are that she will want to be called Kenzie then too...but for things like adult business cards and such, she will likely want a more mature name. Mackenzie Eileen and Mackenzie Ruth have been two favorites of mine. Good luck :)

I love it, but thinking about when the little girl grows up to be and adult, she might think it's too 'childish'.
you could name her McKenzie.
Then call her Kenzie when she's a toddler, kid/teen.
She can switch over to McKenzie when she gets older.
It's up to you, but I think it's a really cute name.
And no name is 'too' trendy or 'too' popular for anyone.
If you like a name, no matter what name it is, you shouldn't not name your baby it because it's to popular or too unpopular.
It's whatever you like!
good luck!

It does seem very trendy. What about Lindsey...it has the same sound with a more traditional feel?

I don't like it.
I've never liked it. In fact, I've never been a fan of any of the names like that...
McKenzie Kenzie, McKenna, Kenna, McKayla, Kayla.
Just never liked them for some reason.
