No. BPH stands for benign prostatic hypertrophy and is a natural phenomenon in older men. The prostatic enlargement tends to reduce bladder volume so that the affected person must urinate more frequently. It also impinges on the urethra, making the channel narrower, so that the urinary stream is decreased. Eventually it can lead to complete obstruction.

Prostatitis is inflammation of the prostate, and tends to occur earlier in life. Symptoms are similar to those of a urinary tract infection: fever, perineal pain, frequent and painful urination. It is treated with antibiotics and sometimes with prostatic massage.
