Troy Anthony Davis says he is innocent, and Amnesty International has taken up his cause.

There was never any physical evidence linking Mr. Davis to the 1989 murder of Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail, and the murder weapon was never found.

Compelling new evidence has never been presented to a court because of a 1996 federal death penalty law that seriously constrains appeals in capital cases.

All but two of the prosecution's nine non-police witnesses have since recanted or contradicted their testimony, many claiming that they were coerced

Due to Amnesty International activists' efforts, the "Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles" issued a 90-day stay of execution in July 2007 in order to further investigate Troy Davis' claims of innocence. The board's decision came just 24 hours before Davis was scheduled to be executed.

Now, finally, an appeal might be heard.

Try reading the papers in "Baze v Rees", currently working it's way through the system.

In it, the Court will determine whether the current method of death by lethal injection constitutes "Cruel and unusual punishment" as banned by the Constitution.

This is, I'm not making it up, a searchable database of executions, with a lot of variables on gender, location, etc, should be a good resource for you.
