Potassium is a silver coloured, Alkali Metal Element.
Chemical symbol is 'K' ..
Atomic Number: 19 …Atomic Mass: 39
Melting Point: 64°C (337 K, 147°F)
Boiling Point: 774°C (1047 K, 1425°F)
Number of Protons/Electrons: 19
Number of Neutrons: 20
Electron configuration.
Number of Energy Levels: 4
First Energy Level 'K' = 2
Second Energy Level 'L' = 8
Third Energy Level 'M' = 8
Fourth Energy Level 'N' = 1 (valence electron).
Potassium is very reactive with water - the reaction is the same as for sodium but is faster and highly exothermic.
The hydrogen ignites This reaction with cold water forms the alkali potassium hydroxide and hydrogen gas.
2K(s) + 2H2O(l) → 2KOH(aq) + H2(g)
Potash (K2O). Potassium Oxide, is used in fertilisers.

Nakeshia,
Above is right; but potassium (chemical symbol K) is an alkali metal with a valency of +1. As said above; it combines explosively with water to form its hydroxide KOH which is a white highly corrosive powder which is soluble in water.
Hope this helps;
The Mac

potassium is found in bananas
it is needed in small amount in your body for your growth and healthy muscles. it is also needed to balance out your bodily fluids and the minerals is also needed in plants and without it, it, they will wither.
potassium as a metal is found in group 1 of the periodic table. it is extremely reactive but light at the same time, it has a low density. it reacts strongly with water and acids.

Pure elemental potassium is a soft metal that is very reactive (explosive!)
when in contact with water.
