I've seen it advertised in AM New York's classified ads. I have experience in proofreading and copyediting and the ad said that they do training and placement for their proofreaders. However, I always have to call a answering service and wait for someone from columbia proofreaders to call me back. And when they do, they give me a phone number to call and rush my off the phone. I can't ask any questions. I call the given phone number the next day and get someone else on the phone, they are just as rude. Has anyone had experience with columbia proofreaders this way? or is this another classifieds scam that uses a legitamite business name to lure people in. Is columbia proofreaders free?

All these proofreading businesses are scams.

I worked with Columbia Proofreaders a couple years ago, and that happened to be the only way to get an easy 'in' to some of these law firms, which are the top firms in New York... they're great. The service isn't free, but within two days of work, I had more than made up the cost. You would be working through a number of legal staffing agencies, and I never had a shortage of work. I worked with them for 2.5 years, and it was nice because after you complete the initial 'course', You can always go back to them for refreshers or resume help. Best career decision I have made thus far.
