Don't be discouraged by these answers. Hourly rates may not be good to provide on an estimate, but it doesn't mean you can't still use them! Just provide an estimate per job, and base that on $30.00 hour estimated! The same people that said no because it sounded like a lot would probably take on the job price! In Arizona, prices are average at $35.00 per head per hour. We don't rake the leaves, though. We use backpack blowers and use a vac system to suck em up and shred them 12:1 ratio.
This is some of our equipment standard on all our trucks:
http://echo-usa.com/product.asp?Model=PB-755&Category=POWERBLOWER
http://echo-usa.com/product.asp?Model=ES-230&Category=SHREDNVAC
This equipment will clear any large lot in under 20 minutes with experience
Just don't go too cheap just to get the work! hang in there, and you will get a good customer base. Try offering Weekly maintenance while the leaves are falling. Our minimum monthly charge is $110.00 , but you could go $65.00 month and come out ahead. If the properties are really leaf ridden when you do your estimate, then charge them $45.00 for a clean up. clean up prices are ALWAYS on top of monthly charges. Since your starting up, you could try pre - billing for the month for customers who want service.
well, good luck

Not by the hour. Too many workers drag their feet and go slow on purpose to get more money. ALWAYS charge by the job when doing any type of yard work.
In our West Texas area, we pay $20 for a 25' x 25' small yard which includes the patio and front walkway.

no, I'd probably pay about $15 to rake the whole yard though.

it all depends on the scope of the job, the size of the property, the amount of expierence, if the person wants you to grind the leaves, how many people are working, if the person wants you to haul the leaves away, and eduaction the particular worker has.

nope, I'd let them rot on the ground. If I was wealthy in an upper crust neighborhood where my lawn had to look good, then yes.
