Why can't some states that have 2 teams have 3? for example, MO, TX, NY, IL, OH, FL. I was just wondering because they have more teams than anyone. Do you think they should close a few teams and bring them where the money and fanbase is like San Antonio, TX or Rhode Island? Thanks to all replys.

All of the California teams have huge fan bases with the Angels and Dodgers leading the way in attendance for the state. Both of them rank at or near the top in paid attendance every year for the entire major leagues. If any state has too many teams I say it's Florida. With the horrible attendance records that they have, they should either fold both Florida teams or relocate them. California loves baseball and they prove it year in and year out with their support.

Well, let's look at the attendance stats: Oakland was 26th this past season; the worst of the California teams. Kansas City (MO), Tampa and Florida were all had poorer attendance, which is also generally a good indicator of other fan-based revenues. Oakland has seen a significant downturn in the past two seasons, as before that, it was 19th -in the middle of the mix. The Dodgers, Giants and Angels are generally among the top 10 in attendance, and the Padres generally at or near the top of the middle group. The NY teams are consistently atop the charts, but, can another team, perhaps upstate, support baseball, especially in early spring or fall? Cincinnati (OH) has also seen better attendance, and is dropping off (24th this season, with some huge names on the roster). Illinois' teams draw well, but to draw support away from established Chicago franchises, with other long-standing midwestern teams nearby is unlikely for another Illinois team. San Antonio has become a larger market, and has a good baseball market, but it's weaker than other cities (such as Las Vegas). Rhode Island would also be a hard market. Too many people in the Northeast claim the Yankees, Red Sox and Mets as their home team; it would be difficult to establish a credible fan base. Baseball has not fully recovered from the last strike (1994) or the threat of one in 2001. Baseball needs to endear itself to the fans. Owners should worry more about profit volume than profit margin; lower ticket costs so it's affordable to go to the ball park and quit being held hostage by players and agents (people like Scott Boras).

This question has already been asked, and yes that I know for the fact is that California has a lot of baseball teams, but what is the problem with that? I don't like having the same old question asked over and over again. I don't know if the state of Rhode Island has a fanbase for baseball. States are lucky if they have 2 baseball teams, or maybe not even not lucky at all, which ever you might want to look at it. But maykes for really good comeption.

Why too many? They are all well supported by their fans and all are competitive, sometimes all at the same time. There are a LOT more people in California than in, oh, Colorado or Georgia. More power to them if they can support teams, but California might even need another before too long.

No I don't think they have too many teams.

California has 5 teams because there is enough population to support them. Plus because of the Bay Area and LA area teams you've got great interleague rivalries there alone.

I'm a firm believer in a team in San Antonio, but would love to see Portland (a great sports city) get an MLB club there.

For a state that size, no. They do not have too many teams. California takes up half of the west coast. Not to mention the fact that they have perfect baseball weather.

I would love to see a team in Portland, Oregon. California has so many teams because it is a big state with a big population and can support that many plus you get those interleague rivalries going. I go to Seattle to see teams play and finally got to see my Reds last summer there in interleague play for the first time there. I loved it!
