W. E. B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington were the two dominant Black leaders of American history during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Both men had the same goals--eradicating racism, segregation, and discrimination against their race. However, the means to achieve such ends were vastly different, thus the paradox of these Promethean figures have been revisited 100 years later as Black people seek to grapple with their ideas even in the midst of a 40-year, largely self-inflicted genocide.

In that way they compare to Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. mlk wanted peaceful demonstrations and Malcolm X wanted anything but peaceful.

Booker T. Washington believe in assimilating into American culture and advocated more vocational training for African Americans while W.E.B. Dubois wanted to challenge white americans more and wanted african americans to seek higher education. dubois is also know for starting the NAACP.
In the 60s MLK advocated a peaceful approach to civil right and want to collaborate more with white america much like Washington. Malcomn X saught controversery as the only way to change the status quo and advocated violence if necessary although he was a peaceful man overall.
