suburb ok, depends on your environment, if it is safe for kids to ride their bike to school, go to the shop by themselve. country make your kids be kids. country kids they more independent because of safe environment, if it is only one hour from the city, I would choose the country. especially if you want your kids to have extra activities such as piano lesson, sport, etc, you still not far away from any suburbs or the city. I'm personally don't trust anybody to take care of my kids, I'm very picky with my kids friend's parent, I have to see if they have the right attitude like no smoking near the children, no sitting all day with alcohol, no swearing in front of kids then kids allowed to go to their friends' place to play. I would rather having their kids at home. because I live in the country my kids can ride around the town, visit their friends, go to swimming pool, go to the park with friends. most of the time they home on time. I like to be aware where they are. if you live in the bigger suburbs, kids have no freedom. the city you have to be with them all the time, kids under one year old has to be in childcare will damage their mentality. the city you don't have a break, you have to make an arrangement if they want to play with friends, you have to drive them to their friends place. you have to do that until they grow up which they don't learn to be independent. my kids can look after themselve when I'm at work, they are 11 and 8 years old. my son look after his sister, make their dinner and lunch. they go to school by themselve, make their own breakfast and tidy up the house. I can leave them at home while I'm working with caution and rules. that's the different when you leave in the country. the good thing is they also learn responsibility. I don't need baby sitter, when I came home from work my kids happy to show me what they do to the house. where I live we don't need to lock the car or the house. cheers.

If I'm rich I'd choose a CITY city, like New York or Chicago. I think it's good for kids to grow up around all kinds of people, learn how to deal with everything, see lots of museums, exhibits, big variety. But if you don't have money in such a city, they have to deal with a lot of riff raff.
So next I'd choose somewhere fun like near a beach. Florida, for example. A small beach town with some colleges would be great. I wouldn't want to raise a kid in the suburbs in a conservative place because the people are so ingrown and brainwashed. Then in other suburbs people can be vicously competitive and only care about flaunting their consumptions. I'd go for the country over suburbs and let the kids get to know nature, but I'd want a network of good friends or family within a drive so we didn't get too lonely.

Best place's to live is where the parent's can afford and feel comfortable and make it there home.
Love is where the HOME is.
I grew up in the country and by far
I would not change that for anything.I loved it.I now live in the city and I can't stand it.

In an area where it is diverse and low crime period. Free to roam and have privacy like at least on about 5-10 acres to build and create. I do not like suburbs though.
