find the least comon denominator for 12 and 15
2 * 2 * 3 for 12
3 * 5 for 15
so 2*2*3*5 = 60
3 (5/12) = 3 [(5/12) * (5/5)] = 3 (25/60)
7 (2/15) = 7 [(2/15) * (4/4)] = 7 (8/60)
add these together and you get 10 (33/60)
now 3 can be factored out of the 33/60 to get 11/20
so 10 11/20 is the answer

3 and 5/12 is the same as 41/12 (multiply 12X3 and add 5)
7 and 2/15 is the same as 107/15 (multiply 15X7 and add 2)

so you have 41/12 + 107/15

what number do both 12 and 15 go into?
60
60 is 5X12 and 4X15
so multiply 41/12 by 5 and you get 205/60
and mutiply 107/15 by 4 and you get 428/60
add 428 and 205 and you get 633/60
divide 60 into 633 and you get 10 33/60
33 and 60 are both divisible by 3 so you can reduce that down to something smaller by dividing each by 3 which give you 11/20 so the ANSWER is 10 11/20

3 5/12 is the same as 41 / 12
7 2/15 is the same as 107 / 15

But now you need a common denominator. 60 will do...

41 / 12 = 205 / 60
107 / 15 = 428 / 60

So the sum must be 633 / 60.

Now we have to put it in reduced form

633 / 60 = 211 / 20
