I know where you are coming from!! When I am around other teachers that have a vast amount of life experience on me, I tend to be called by first name, while they refer to each other by last names. I do feel that it is some what disrespectful; however I just work that much harder to prove I am not a "kid". I am also showing that I am as good, if not, better than they are! I am a very competitive person, so this gets me going. I continue to refer to them by their last names and let it stay that professional.
My suggestion is to buckle down and do what I do and find a group of teachers that are in your age group, and have similar interests. You'll learn more from them, with what they are trying in their classes, than someone who keeps others at such a distance. I find having an open door to my heart I get more out of students than keeping them at a distance! Focus on them, that is why we became teachers and not the snot nosed, know-it-alls!

Wow, you have so many more important things to worry about. I started teaching at 22 and people at work called me "baby" like they did the students. They secretaries told me I looked 14. These are their problems, don't make it yours. Maybe theirs is a club you don't really want to join. Now that I'm 30, there is more respect, but I've had to earn it. Also, it's all the same every time you go to a new school, so just get over it.

Don't worry about it, just do the best job you can do. That's probably how they greet each other, since they know each more intimately, and you are still new to them. I am not sure if it is a generation gap, but it's not something I would worry about too much.

They could be testing you.
You may not have provin yourself to them .
It could be a game for them.
Who knows what others are thinking . laugh it off and do the best job you know how.
