Whats this really old scary space movie?

Question

I doubt anyone will be able to tell me what it was, but I remember watching it when i was a kid, so it has to be almost 15 years old.

I can only remember a couple scenes, and not well enough to describe them.

The only part I can think of is they were watching a computer screen and the person was a dot of one color and the alien was a dot of another color and the person watching the screen couldn't do anything as the alien came up behind the human without the human knowing until the dots merged and the human dot disappeared.

I THINK it ended by the alien realizing the humans were scared of it and decided to let them live, but I have no idea if that is the case.

For some reason, I thought the movie was called crystal of a star, but search for that came up with no results.

STAR CRYSTAL (1986)

You were so close! This is the most memorable scene in that extremely obscure movie~which I videotaped long, long ago! They finally found out that it was only killing from fear, and they make friends with it in the end. It's a really neat-looking little alien, as I recall. I really should watch that again.

Set in 2032, as missions from Earth are being sent to explore Mars. After two groups of astronauts are mysteriously killed following the discovery of strange artifacts on the Martian surface, the crew of the SC-37 go in to try and find out what happened. They soon learn what became of their predecessors when a bloodthirsty space monster begins lunching on members of the crew. Will any of them make it back to Earth alive?

The movie being described is NOT "Alien"! They don't make friends with the Alien, do they? Well, they do in "Star Crystal". I know the film being asked about. I watched it at least five times when it was on a movie channel and taped it; it's in my huge videotape collection.

NO this is NOT Star Crystal... the movie you describe is Alien starring SIgourney Weaver...

There is a scene in Alien where a man is in the air ducts of the ship and they are tracking him and the alien.. they can see the dots on the screen and can see the alien approaching him but they cant tell him! An awesome movie!!! Go watch it!!
