Yes, Santa is 'real' ... because each child has a person who loves them enough to 'become like Santa' and give them the gifts they want or need. Saint Nicholas was a 'saint' because he knew of some young women who couldn't get married because their father didn't have money for their 'dowry' ... St. Nicholas 'snuck into the house' and put gold coins into the girls shoes at night, so they could marry well and not have to live to be 'spinsters' ... and that is what makes 'Santa' real today ... because if the parents can't do it, there are many places that will 'help' for no reason other than knowing that kids 'need' to feel loved ... and Santa comes on Jesus Christ's Birthday Celebration Day because that was the day that God sent HIS SON to Earth so that ALL OF US could go to Heaven (although it was only when Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again three days later at what we now call Easter that we knew this). Merry Christmas ...

Santa is real. The popular North American form Santa Claus originated as a mispronunciation of Dutch Sinterklaas, which in turn is a contracted form of Sint Nicolaas (Saint Nicholas).

Yes.
Whether or not you believe in the elves, the reinderr, and the North Pole, St. Nicholas was a real individual who was involved with the early Christain church.
Since St. Nicholas was real and Santa Claus is supposed to be St. Nicholas, Santa Claus is real.

Pre-modern representations of the gift-giver from church history and folklore merged with the British character Father Christmas to create the character known to Britons and Americans as Santa Claus. Father Christmas dates back at least as far as the 17th century in Britain, and pictures of him survive from that era, portraying him as a well-nourished bearded man dressed in a long, green, fur-lined robe. He typified the spirit of good cheer at Christmas. The name Santa Claus is derived from the Dutch name for the character based on St. Nicholas. He is also known there by the name of Sint Nicolaas which explains the use of the two fairly dissimilar names Santa Claus and Saint Nicholas or St. Nick.
Saint Nicholas of Myra is the primary inspiration for the Christian figure of Santa Claus. He was a 4th century Christian bishop of Myra in Lycia, a province of the Byzantine Anatolia, now in Turkey. Nicholas was famous for his generous gifts to the poor, in particular presenting the three impoverished daughters of a pious Christian with dowries so that they would not have to become prostitutes. He was very religious from an early age and devoted his life entirely to Christianity.

I can tell you that Santa Claus hails from the actual Saint, St. Nicholas. He is an actual person, just that Santa Claus himself has been commercialized to a different point throughout generations.

Santa is based upon several different "characters/people" including Saint Nicholas and several other tales including Father Christmas, The Oak and Holly King, and even has a few traits of Gods and other Deities. So, it's all what you want to believe and how you celebrate.

Of course, last year I got a new Jag, 60" HDTV and a surround sound system along with a ton of other gifts. Naturally, I left him cheese like the girl on the commercial.
